2022 Recognizing Public Servants Scholarship

David Benowitz, a founding partner of Price Benowitz LLP, has served as a high-profile criminal defense attorney for over 20 years. As a criminal defense attorney, David Benowitz has immense respect for public servants in our community. 

Attorney Benowitz’s passion for public service and desire to encourage those considering entering this arena inspired him to create the Recognizing Public Servants Scholarship. Through this scholarship, attorney David Benowitz would like to give students the opportunity to express their thoughts on the important role that public servants play in our communities. 

The scholarship will award $1,000 to the student who expresses their thoughts with insight and creativity on the importance of public servants and their work. In a 750-1,000 word essay, discuss the importance of public servants and public service in our society and why public servants, especially public defenders, are important in our legal system. 

Please read the scholarship eligibility and application instructions carefully. Applications will be accepted until December 31, 2022.

Eligibility

  • This scholarship is offered to any student currently enrolled in an accredited community college, undergraduate, or graduate program in the United States. This includes incoming first-year college students who are high school graduates or possess a GED. 
  • The scholarship candidate must possess an interest in public service, as demonstrated by past and present volunteer, professional, and educational experiences. 
  • All eligible candidates must be in good academic standing, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Application Requirements

To apply for this scholarship, please submit:

  • An updated resume
  • A current unofficial transcript from the applicant’s school
  • A 750-1,000 word essay discussing the following: Discuss the importance of public servants and public service in our society. Why are public servants, and especially public defenders, important in our legal system?

Deadline and Instructions

The deadline to apply for this scholarship is December 31, 2022In order to be eligible, scholarship applicants must submit their full application (resume, transcript, essay) by email to info@criminallawdc.com with the subject line: “[Applicant’s Name] — Recognizing Public Servants Scholarship” by the December 31, 2022 deadline to be considered.
